The T-54 was a soviet medium tank. It was one of the best tanks the soviets had created. The first prototype was created in 1945. The hull of the tank was simular to the hull of the T-44, but the turret was a bit larger and had a 100mm gun. As secondary weapons the tank had a 50 and a 30 calliber DSHK machine guns. The soviets saw potential in it so they created more prototypes. The most succesfull variant was created in 1949, just 4 years after the original. The tank had and excelent sloped armor and a 100mm cannon with APDS and APHE shells. The T-54 is very important for the modern russian MBTs, because many russian MBTs followed the same design like the T-62, T-72, T-80, T-90 and even the T-90M. With that being said the russian tanks would be a lot worse. It was fast and most of the west tanks like the M60 and Leopard 1 were created as a possible answer to the might of the soviets.
In conclusion the tank was fast, very well armoured and had great firepower.
