The T-34-85 was an USSR tank produced in WW2. The tank was produced as a direct answer to the german Tiger 1 and Panther tanks. The old T-34 had smaller turret, a weaker 76mm cannon and crew of 4 (driver, hull gunner, gunner and loader). The 85 variant fixed all of these problems. It had a bigger turret that could fit 3 crew members inside, it had an extra crew member (commander) and was given a bigger 85mm cannon that could penetrate a Tiger H1 ( a german heavy tank ) with easse with its APHE and APCR shells. The tank was produced in very large numbers (nearly 81 000 tanks). The T-34-85 is discribed as the best tank of WW2. Even germans feared it, even if most of their tanks overshadowed the soviet tanks. The T-34-85 will forever be respected as one of the best tanks in the world. In conclusion the tank was the peak of soviet enginiering among the IS-2.
